The key to an effective legislative initiative is local support and local participation. Texas legislative leaders need to know your views and your commitment to support those views. Help us be effective this next legislative session. Let your legislator know how you feel about issues affecting UT Austin and join us for Orange & Maroon Legislative Day.

Registration is open. Following the close of registration, you will receive a list of offices you will visit, plus a list of alumni volunteers in your group. It is imperative you attend the offices you have been assigned. If you have a particular office you wish to visit, please indicate this when you register.

Volunteer check-in begins

Place: 

Capitol Auditorium E-1.004

Description Check-in opens for TAMU/UT alumni participants.

 

Volunteer Kickoff

Time:

8:30 am - 10:00 am

Place: 

Capitol Auditorium E-1.004

Description Official start-time for OMLD participants. This Kickoff briefing will remind volunteers of the purpose of OMLD, give additional background on the key legislative issues, as well as offer talking points. Participants will be addressed by Alumni and University Presidents.

 

Resolution Reading

Time:

House10:00 am - Senate 11:00 am

Place: 

The Capitol

Description The Texas Legislature will honor OMLD participants with a resolution. Alumni who wish to participate may sit in the designated seating in each chamber gallery to be recognized.

 

Public Capitol Tours

Time:

11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Place: 

The Capitol

Description Participants may opt for a tour of the Capitol to get better acquainted with the building. Tours begin every 15 minutes.

 

Volunteer Buffett Lunch

Time:

12:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Place: 

Capitol Legislative Conference Center E-2.002

Description OMLD volunteers can enjoy a BBQ buffet lunch prior to the office visits. You are encouraged to use this time to meet your group and ask any last minute questions of the Governmental Relations Staff prior to your office visits.

 

Legislative Office Visits

Time:

2:00 – 4:00 pm

Place: 

Capitol Offices

Description OMLD participants will visit with legislators and/or staff members to share our concerns with higher education.

 

Reception

Time:

4:30 – 6:30 pm

Place: 

Doubletree Bluebonnet Grand Ball Room

Description Cocktail reception honoring the 81st Legislature and staff with their Longhorn and Aggie constituents. A short program will allow Alumni Presidents to welcome everyone, and speak briefly on legislative issues and the concept of OMLD.
